After a good night's sleep and cooked breakfast we set off for the keenly awaited spice tour. I think I only need to say that my initial reservations were well founded and the tour proved to be as much as an ordeal as I thought it would be. 4 hours of walking around a simple spice forest looking at trees and having the various fruits dissected for our benefit. I found the whole experience to be hot and very very tedious. Looking at fruits with 40 other tourists is not an experience I can recommend to any of the people that I like. THAT IS ALL HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT!!!!!
I also managed to have another quick look at the fish market and think the only place that can compare to its hygiene is the A&E ward of Croydon hospital. Suffice to say no purchases were made.
The afternoon involved returning to the sanctuary of the Palace hotel for cold drinks and the group catching up on their emails.
To be really honest when I returned to Jambiani, to our ill equipped hostel, I was indeed very happy, not only to have the sea breeze but also to get away from the claustrophobia and oppression of the streets of Stone Town.
For the first time in Jambiani I have been able to catch up on the news from the UK via the bbc website and as one would expect I did not dwell on the sports news given the result of the game. I have also seen that Robert Peston's entry says the manufacturing figures are appalling so I trust I am not missing too much business activity at home.
PS. I Can report that Ines has not escaped without some personal difficulty from the lovely Zanzibar Pizza and cane juice. All others appear to be ok but as with all girls you never really know.
Sounds like the spice tour is to die for ;-)
