January 26th 2009- rain rain go away

I awoke this morning to find that it was still raining. Not the normal type of rain that we are used to at home (barring a couple of days last summer) but a full on tropical down pour. This was in fact quite fun and made quite a dramatic sight. The consequence of the rain was that there would be no school today as the children do not attend school if it is raining. I bet Amy and Ellie and the Vineyard kids would love to have that rule in England, but alas no.

The morning became a bit of a bore with the group all wondering what we could do. It was finally agreed that cards at a nearby hotel was in order and Uno was the chosen game. There were a few variations on the game as one would expect and it took up a couple of hours. I did make a fatal error though in choosing a snack, fish fingers, but not as you know them, and was left to rue this decision for the rest of the day and night.

Despite feeing unwell I was not going to miss the completion of the garden project and although it doesn't look much in the photos a lot of hard work has gone into this and one that will hopefully benefit the kids for years to come, especially the planting of the French Panier tree (I am sure this name does not seem right) which will hopefully grow to 6 meters in height and provide shade for the class rooms. Nowhere is this needed more than class 2 or should I say the oven.

The evening was a quiet affair for me as I went to bed early feeling unwell. In fact I went to sleep at about 8.30 which is really unusual for me. Hopefully tomorrow I will have recovered.
